Massage Therapist Program

S.W.M.I.’s massage therapist program offers comprehensive instruction and practice in the art – and business – of running a successful massage therapy practice or being employed as a massage therapist.

The massage therapist program consists of 39 weeks, 17.72 hours per week for a total of 691 hours.

Program Goals

  • To provide students with the knowledge, skills and professionalism to become highly qualified practitioners in Massage Therapy;
  • To enable students to be fully capable of obtaining employment in their health care field;
  • To prepare students to be capable of passing the licensure and/or certification exams required to become a licensed or certified practitioner in Washington State;
  • To develop in students a sense of ethical responsibility in the therapist-client dynamic and with fellow practitioners
  • To provide students with an appreciation for continued learning throughout their professional careers.

Program Objective

The goal of the massage therapist program is to prepare you for a successful career in massage therapy.

Upon completion of this program you will receive a certificate of completion, be prepared to pass all licensing exams and become a WA State Licensed Massage Practitioner.

Program Topics

During the course of study you will receive comprehensive instruction and practice in the following areas:

  • Anatomy and Physiology – 141.50 hours
  • Kinesiology – 61.25 hours
  • Pathology – 61.25 hours
  • Theory and Practice – 265.60 hours
  • Clinical/Business Practices – 72 hours
  • Business Skills – 56 hours

Program participants will also receive certification in CPR from the American Red Cross & American Heart Association.

Other topics may include:
Lymphatic Drainage; Craniosacral; Billing; Chair Massage; Pregnancy Massage; Sports Massage; TMJ Massage (Intraoral); Ethics; Foot Reflexology; Tolerance Training – understanding others’ disabilities/handicaps/diseases.
